The Fox News Channel is a political news channel that has been around since the end of 1996. It was created and owned by Rupert Murdoch. From the beginning it was clear to most people that they reported the news through a conservative lens. Since liberals have multiple news channels dedicated to their point of view, it seemed only fair that the conservatives had a political news channel of their own. Most news outlets whether television, newspapers, magazines or websites, have some sort of biased but in recent years many suggest that Fox News has crossed the line.
• What frustrates most of it’s critics is that their slogan is “fair and balanced”. An online documentary called “Outfoxed” showcases the increase of dishonest news and ignorance to the truth over the years since it’s inception by interviewing past employees of the political channel and showing memos that suggested which talking points to use during the coarse of each day.
• Fox News channel’s most popular hosts are Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly. Each of these men host an hour of television a day and seem to stick to only the conservative point of view. Many critics claim to have proven that all three of these men have blatantly lied to their viewers multiple times. A popular website “mediamatter.org” lists many examples of conservatives either lying or being dishonest on a daily basis and Fox News hosts and contributors are frequently used as examples.
• The political news channel attacks the current democratic president every chance it gets. Some of the political hosts have been called out on liberal shows, such as Countdown with Keith Olbermann and The Rachel Maddow Show on clipping and paraphrasing some of President Obama’s quotes in order to make him look weak or unintelligent. They have been accused of miss representing polls and even pictures. The day after one of the new extreme conservative Tea Party’s rallies, Fox News showed pictures and video of a massive crowd, claiming that the rally had an excellent turn out. The next night, Keith Olbermann showed that the video was from a different event that had happened months prior and had no association to the tea party.
There is nothing wrong with having a conservative political point of view. However, it seems that there are many who have conservative political views that think they are entitled to their own facts. Some liberals see Fox’s political news as dangerous. The political climate right now is growing passed typical political debate and moving towards racism and anarchy. Many have been pictured and video taped at tea party rally holding signs with President Obama’s face made to look like The Joker from Batman or with a Hitler mustache reading “Obama is a socialist” or “Say No to ObamaCare”. These political demonstrations are not healthy for the political debate and political news channels should not be covering it.
