The Possible Dangers of Fox News
The Fox News Channel is a political news channel that has been around since the end of 1996. It was created and owned by Rupert Murdoch. From the beginning it was clear to most people that they reported the news through a conservative lens. Since liberals have multiple news channels dedicated to their point of view, it seemed only fair that the conservatives had a political news channel of their own. Most news outlets whether television, newspapers, magazines or websites, have some sort of biased but in recent years many suggest that Fox News has crossed the line. • What frustrates most of it’s critics is that their slogan is “fair and balanced”. An online documentary called “Outfoxed” showcases the increase of dishonest news and ignorance to the truth over the years since it’s inception by interviewing past employees of the political channel and showing memos that suggested which talking points to use during the coarse of each day. • Fox News channel’s most popular hosts are Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly. Each of these men host an hour of television a day and seem to stick to only the conservative point of view. Many critics claim to … Continue reading
What Happened to Political Debates?
Although political debates have always involved political theater, it seems as though that’s all of today’s political debate consists of. The majority of the democratic party is trying to have an honest political debate about how to solve our nation’s problems, but the republican party would rather just say no and resort to name calling and point fingers instead. The health care political debate is one of the best examples of just how bi-partisan the republican party has become. There arguments have contained mostly lies and accusations about the democratic president’s intent. There have been many instances where President Obama has taken some of their ideas and used them in bills. This happened with health care and economic reform as well as legislation for job creation. Since going along with this would mean that they are siding with the president, they choose to attack the president on using their own ideas. The political debates of today are lacking substance and this needs to change if we are going to fix our nation’s problems. • The health care political debates has brought out the worst in some our country’s elected officials. Covering our citizens with quality affordable health insurance is an … Continue reading
Top Political Issues Are Constantly Changing
In today’s fast paced society with many ways to communicate instantly, it seems that the most important political issue changes all the time. Many would suggest that this is due to the media who can basically tell the American people what they think is important or what they believe. With our country going through such a tough time, the top political issues are almost expected to change because there is not just one issue that the country is worried about. The political issues of today are important problems that we need our elected officials to start taking more seriously. Photo opportunities and sound bites do not matter, action and progress is what the American people need right now. • During most of the 2008 presidential race, the economy was the top priority to most Americans. Our economy was in a recession. The worst one since the great depression. Then democratic nominee Barack Obama proposed regulation of the markets in order to stop big bankers from taking the risks that they were taking with other people’s money. Meanwhile John McCain claimed that the essential elements of our economy were strong right before some of the biggest banks in the world declared … Continue reading
A Political Campaign For the Ages
Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign was arguably one of the best political campaigns in history. Our country was involved in two wars and we were facing the biggest recession since the great depression. Still, his political campaign stayed focused and continued promoting his message while the opposing political campaign choose to use personal attacks instead of debating policy and current events. Political campaigns often choose to take the negative route by trying to destroy the opposing candidate’s image. It is unfortunate that these tactics often work. • Running a political campaign is not an easy task. Barack Obama’s chief strategist David Axelrod did a phenomenal job at running the campaign and now serves as the senior advisor to President Obama. His hard work and intelligence helped Barack Obama become a senator and now President of the United States. He was an advocate for honesty and sticky to the facts which Barack Obama also believed. This could be why many of the republican attacks on the current administration seem to go unnoticed by the President and his cabinet. • The 2008 Presidential race involved two political campaigns that seemed to be polar opposites. The democratic nominee Barack Obama often seemed to … Continue reading
