Liberal Political Views

Many Americans believe that liberals are the reason why our country has progressed so much since it’s inception. Generally speaking, conservatives prefer to keep things the way they are. They are less open to change and believe in the status quo. It could be that the liberal’s political stance is what makes this country so free and full of opportunity. Liberal political views are simple and easy to understand. The definition of the word liberal suggests that it means not limited to any type of view, so all that really means is that liberals are not subjected to one type of thought, which many believe is how our country should run. When it comes to political stance, liberals do not believe that the country should be tied down to run in one particular way. Some people believe that running a country in a strictly conservative way is dangerous. If the people of a country are changing and progressing mentally and physically, shouldn’t the country be changing with it? Our society is not the same as it was 100 years ago or even 20 years ago. Therefore, our laws should reflect that. When it comes to the economy, liberals believe in … Continue reading

The Body Politic and The Banks

It has become very clear to most Americans that the big banks are the reason our economy is suffering so badly right now. The body politic does not agree with the politics of the bank even as the government has encouraged them to change their ways. Over the past thirty years the banks have become increasingly deregulated allowing them to take risks with the public’s money. The recent housing bubble that burst was started essentially because big banks were making bets on their bets dealing with mortgages. This was rather easy to get away with because the body politic did not understand what they were doing. Since the housing bubble burst at the end of 2007, our elected officials have been scrambling to try to figure out what to do. Unfortunately, politics got in the way and the problem has yet to be solved. As of now, no new regulations have been placed on the banks. This means the actions they took that got us into this mess are still perfectly legal. At a time when our economy is not too far from where it was during the great depression, we need to put politics aside. The body politic wants … Continue reading

The Possible Dangers of Fox News

The Fox News Channel is a political news channel that has been around since the end of 1996. It was created and owned by Rupert Murdoch. From the beginning it was clear to most people that they reported the news through a conservative lens. Since liberals have multiple news channels dedicated to their point of view, it seemed only fair that the conservatives had a political news channel of their own. Most news outlets whether television, newspapers, magazines or websites, have some sort of biased but in recent years many suggest that Fox News has crossed the line. • What frustrates most of it’s critics is that their slogan is “fair and balanced”. An online documentary called “Outfoxed” showcases the increase of dishonest news and ignorance to the truth over the years since it’s inception by interviewing past employees of the political channel and showing memos that suggested which talking points to use during the coarse of each day. • Fox News channel’s most popular hosts are Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly. Each of these men host an hour of television a day and seem to stick to only the conservative point of view. Many critics claim to … Continue reading

What Happened to Political Debates?

Although political debates have always involved political theater, it seems as though that’s all of today’s political debate consists of. The majority of the democratic party is trying to have an honest political debate about how to solve our nation’s problems, but the republican party would rather just say no and resort to name calling and point fingers instead. The health care political debate is one of the best examples of just how bi-partisan the republican party has become. There arguments have contained mostly lies and accusations about the democratic president’s intent. There have been many instances where President Obama has taken some of their ideas and used them in bills. This happened with health care and economic reform as well as legislation for job creation. Since going along with this would mean that they are siding with the president, they choose to attack the president on using their own ideas. The political debates of today are lacking substance and this needs to change if we are going to fix our nation’s problems. • The health care political debates has brought out the worst in some our country’s elected officials. Covering our citizens with quality affordable health insurance is an … Continue reading

Top Political Issues Are Constantly Changing

In today’s fast paced society with many ways to communicate instantly, it seems that the most important political issue changes all the time. Many would suggest that this is due to the media who can basically tell the American people what they think is important or what they believe. With our country going through such a tough time, the top political issues are almost expected to change because there is not just one issue that the country is worried about. The political issues of today are important problems that we need our elected officials to start taking more seriously. Photo opportunities and sound bites do not matter, action and progress is what the American people need right now. • During most of the 2008 presidential race, the economy was the top priority to most Americans. Our economy was in a recession. The worst one since the great depression. Then democratic nominee Barack Obama proposed regulation of the markets in order to stop big bankers from taking the risks that they were taking with other people’s money. Meanwhile John McCain claimed that the essential elements of our economy were strong right before some of the biggest banks in the world declared … Continue reading

Political Forums of Today

Television’s political forums of today can be extremely biased. The liberals have the majority of news stations in their favor such as NBC, MSNBC, CBS and CNN which is probably the most balanced but still tends to lean towards the democrat’s point of view the majority of the time. The major political forum for conservatives is Fox News and while they claim to be “Fair and balanced”, many Americans believe they are anything but fair and balanced. The most popular political forums on television are the night time shows such as Countdown with Keith Olbermann, The Rachel Maddow Show, 360 with Anderson Cooper, The Sean Hannity Show and The O’Reilly Factor just to name a few. These shows are political forums in which each host invite guests on their show who either strongly represent their opinion or are weak representatives of the opposing side. • The most popular televised political forum for liberals is the MSNBC news channel. The two shows that include the strongest messages are Countdown with Keith Olbermann and The Rachel Maddow Show. Olbermann’s political forum tends to be one sides. He rarely has any guests from the opposing side and often uses strong language to promote … Continue reading

Democrats Need to Do Something!

The democrats had the biggest majority in our nation’s history and even though they currently lost one seat in the Senate, they now have the second largest majority in history. Many people are scratching their heads asking why can’t they get anything done? Health care reform seemed to be the number one issue to democrats in both houses of congress during 2009, but they still were not able to get a bill to President Obama’s desk. Now the major task at hand seems to be job creation and they are currently having trouble with that as well as economic reform. Now that they lost the super majority of 60-40 in the Senate, the republicans can now filibuster any legislation that a democrat proposes. However, they did not have this excuse last year. Many democrats are now suggesting that their party uses reconciliation in order to get fellow democrat’s bills passed. Many in the liberal media are encouraging democrats to speak out more against the miss information that the republican party has been saying about all of their proposed legislation especially health care reform. However, some democrats are nervous of doing that because of the 2010 midterm elections that are coming … Continue reading
